History and Culture
Accra has a rich cultural heritage that is reflected in its architecture, art, and music. The city was founded in the 15th century by the Ga people, and was later colonized by the British in the 19th century. Today, visitors can explore the city’s history by visiting landmarks such as the Osu Castle, which was built by the Danes in the 17th century, and the Independence Square, which was built to commemorate Ghana’s independence from British colonial rule in 1957.
